Intro and Overview 2014

.Introduction

Hello everyone and my name is Chuck Hardesty and am riding my bicycle cross country from Los Angeles California to Boston Massachusetts from May 11th 2014 through June 28th 2014. The ride will cover approximately 3400 miles.

I am riding for the Wounded Warrior Project and I’d ask that you please donate whatever amount that you can afford to this program that assists our wounded veterans. There are links on every page to my site on the Wounded Warrior project for donations.

This is the second year that I have done this. The first was 2 years ago. Both times, I have ridden with CrossRoads Adventure Cycling. They are a well-run outfit and take great care of the riders.

Overview of my Blog

I find the site a little confusing. There is probably a lot of information left over from 2012 regarding my motivation, sources of inspiration and other stuff. The ride or 2012 is listed under “Adventure of 201”. It reads backwards from an historical perspective.

If you look under Map of America it will list all the places we stop at and the route. As we visit a new place, I will update the blog that day along with stats and other information. I wanted to try to give a little more flavor of places of interests this time and take note of historical significance when applicable.

Thanks for following my adventure.

Chuck

  1. Hi Chuck ~ Thank you for what you are doing. Amazing!
What time on Sat. will your ride start &will there be any type of send off celebration?
My husband is a Vietnam Combat Vet and we try to support veterans causes.

    • Hi Janice thanks for your support and well wishes. I think the ride (I should know this actually starts on Sunday. We leave from the hotel and ride to Manhattan Beach. From doing it a few years ago, there are a few folks who show up and provide a few cheers. We dip our wheels at Manhattan Beach near the pier and I guess that is the official start and linger there a spell before starting. We leave the hotel around 7:oo am (the Marriott Courtyard on Mariposa) and head to Manhattan Beach. Not sure what part of the country you are in and would love to see you along the way.

Many thanks to your husband as well for his service in Vietnam.
