May 27th – Dalhart, TX – 3rd State Line Crossing

Hello everyone,

My mom used to tell me, “if you can’t say something nice about someone,  don’t say anything at all.” With that philosophy, I am grappling to find something nice about today. I can actually think of several things:

1) I am no longer riding 96 miles into a hellacious headwind

2) Misery loves company and I got to watch the Hermantor and others struggle as well plus provide some good company on a bad day

3) We only lost 1 hour when the time zone changed and now my watch has the right time.

4) No Flats!!!

5) The SAG ladies Jan, Eileen and the maestro Carol

6) My lot was infinitely better than the thousands of head of cattle that we saw, who were about to become someone’s dinner

7) I wasn’t standing by the “Texas” sign when someone was blasting away at it with their firearm.

8) I didn’t fall off my bike like Joann who had a minor crash.

9) I am not Joann;s husband Stuart who yelled “snake” which caused her to crash.

10) We only have to ride 72 miles tomorrow, cross into Oklahoma

11) I only had to listen to Pierre (aTexan) sing a few lines of “The Yellow Rose of Texas.”

12) I saw some pretty flowers along the road

13) That DQ, Herm and I couldn’t find riding into town probably would have given us botulism…

14) WE are not suffering through a Dust Bowl like the one which occurred in the 1930’s and devastated this region and was recently depicted in a PBS documentary by Ken Burns. Well worth watching.

Tailwinds

Good philosophy Chuck! You captured some big things that hit us in the face and some small things that we missed or didn’t appreciate.
