Hello everyone,
Today is the 5th and final rest day of the tour. So why don’t I get to rest? Thus far this is my 3rd blog entry. I guess that is partly my own fault for not updating the prior 2 days in a timely maker. It looks like tomorrows may be delayed as well since after I ride my 80 miles, I will probably take a tip to see Niagara Falls. I really don’t want to see the falls, but have an insane desire to do the old 3 Stooges routine : “Niagara Falls! Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch…”I also retrieved my bike, put on a nw flashing light since mine quit working, did laundry, and cleaned my bike. You know, I spent at least 20 minutes trying to completely degrease the chain but I did not get to th point of zero grease marks on the cloth. In fact, II was still getting a lot of it off, but it shines nice and silver.
It was 2:00 before I got to do anything and after lunch decide to go up in the tower that is in the Bay. You can see fro miles and I took a few photos. They won’t let you climb the stairs and it cost $4.00 to use the elevator. My older guy (it is all relative but he was using a cane) took me to the top. I walked around the deck and took photos. It was high enough and if you jumped and got far enough out, you might hit the water. Si I asked the gentleman if anon had a notion of jumping? He said “No, that was why he was there!” I wasn’t sure that he could really stop anyone, but pressed on with my questions. He did say that some folks argued that they could jump, hit the water and would be ok. From that height, I imagine they would break a lot of bones.
I then took a nap and found a text from herm that they were going to dinner at the Tap Room. I went there but found that they abandoned that idea because here was a block party in town and it was kind of loud and there was a wait to get into the Tap Room. We then went to dinner at Smuggler’s Wharf. It was Richard, Tim, Barry, Herm and I. The food was delicious. I had Walleye based on Herm’s recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a lively discussion on British – American politics, old TV shows, (they did not know of the Stooges!) and other bits of trivia. A fun time was had by all.
Tomorrow breakfast at 6 am and then cycling to Hamburg NY. It is about 80 miles and a scenic day. After we get in, about 7of us will rent a van and go to Niagara Falls to reenact the Stooges epic scene. Can someone let me know what day this is? I keep getting confused. Seems that a rest day should be on the weekend.
