June 6th- Chillicothe, MO – Special SAG Stop at the Maysville Historical Society

Special thanks to the warm wonderful folks of Maysville Missouri!

Hello everyone,

I would like to start out by thanking the wonderful folks from Maysville Missouri who came out in force today to welcome a bunch of tired cyclists. They provided us with warm cinnamon buns, bananas, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as well as welcoming us into their town. No other city or or town does this and I am very proud of my Missouri brethren for making everyone in our group feel special. I was able to meet and talk to many of the residents and they shared some wonderful stories. They open their town historical museum which is filled with treasures and memorabilia. We all lingered a little longer than we should have considering the length of the ride, but it was a lot of fun. Legend gas it that Maysville has come out in force for 18 of the 19 tours that CrossRoads has done. If anyone is in the vicinity, I’d recommend stopping in Maysville for a meal or chat and possible entry into their museum. I can guarantee that you will be welcome.

We started the day in fog but it cleared up and turned into a wonderful day weather wise. We had a lot of climbing, about 4000 feet by my Garmin. It was nice to see streams and lots of greenery. We passed many farms and country side vistas . For some reason there were a lot of snapping turtles that had met their demise own the roads.

After the second SAG there s attribute to former representative Jerry Litton who died in an air crash. He is from the very small town of Lock springs and the memorial there is quite unexpected. I love the quote “Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to py the price to make them come true.”

After the SAG, we had some pretty sever climbs with steep grades. I stopped a few times to check my tires, being sure that i must have a flat. After two hard days, these were some real quad busters. The key to many of these Missouri rollers is to pedal as hard as you can down the the hill and have your speed and momentum cary you up most of the way on the next climb.

Chillicothe is a small town with some colorful murals adorning the buildings. One of the murals announces that it is the home of sliced bread. I do have a lot of photos topmost tonight, but would like to acknowledge a couple of things. Eileen had o leave today because her daughter is having surgery.Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.  Also we heard at dinner that Randy definitely will not be back on the tour with us. I know this had to be a great disappointment for him but he needs to make sure that he mends and is able to come back and tackle this healthy. We will miss his wit, warmth and optimism. Most of the riders are planning on visiting Randy’s home when we arrive in Springfield and have dinner. Randy you are a class act and I fi=ondly hope to ride with you again.
