Day 7 Hamburg NY – Canandaigua NY -95 miles (week 6)

Good Evening All,

Today was another “take it easy day” to recover from my slight leg-muscle pull. I ride with larry for the first 67 miles or so and it was a tough day regardless. We had a lot of climbing and descents. The views were spectacular with more vineyards, small farms, cool eastern architecture houses, light  traffic, cool temperatures, wide shoulders, smooth roads, favorable winds  and a lot of streams and forest. Over the last few days, I haste seen fox, chipmunk, mink and a few unidentified creatures. The small towns are neat and seem to have a lot of stores (replenish).

At the first SAG, we celebrated 3000 miles of riding fro the full cross country group. Tracey and crowd took a lot of photos and I will post a few of me. If i  see some of the other rider’s photos, I will add them as well. Tracey told me that I was photogenic and took a lot of pictures of me and said some may wind up on her web site. WWW. crossroadscycling.com  – I think then this tour will be known as “the not so good looking riders tour”. The day was pleasant and we lingered at the first SAG longer than I usually do.

The second SAG was at mile 67 and Larry was hurting at that point and asked to take the van back. A few of the earlier tour riders came out to great us as did a few of the neighbors in Avon NY. Folks were very friendly and in general, the drivers have been good in NY. There were still some riders close and I caught a few of them riding to our destination.  A few of us stopped for ice cream at Sharky’s – it was excellent. I had about 3 times as much as anyone else and they all left before me. Being so full of ice cream, I was content to come in about 3:00.

We had dinner at Wegman’s and I think that I know someone who used too manage one in Charlotte – a very nice grocery store combined with restaurant. Another telling sign that this ride is winding down is all the discussion about the “next adventure” – mountain climbing, helicopter skiing, hiking the Grand canyon and other cycling tours are creeping into our conversations….

Tomorrow is a “short: day of only 70 miles so we will start en mass at 8:15. It is supposed to be an easier ride and I may test me leg a little more but not into hammer mode…

Have a few pictures to post – wishing everyone a great evening!
