Good evening all,
Today was the first day back on the bike after our day off and overall the terrain was easy and I took it easy as well.
This morning before the ride we had “decorate your helmet day” and I have quite a few pictures from that. We have a bunch of creative folks and it certainly came through. Some of us rode all day with our decorations. I had bought a pool toy as a helmet decoration but my friend sent me a “ringer” helmet cover of a turtle. I also had a toy windmill that I attached to my bicycle flag and wore the pool toy during our pre-ride ceremony. John’s K.’s grandson was in attendance and he was the recipient of the pool toy and seemed delighted to have it. Nick looked like a colorful predator and we all looked ridiculous.
Also today we had 5 new riders join us for the ride and some of them may have had second guesses about their decision after seeing us all in our morning costumes.
The morning was cool and I rode with Larry until the first SAG. Larry said that his legs were bothering him and decided to get a bump at the SAG so I caught up with a group that had left earlier and rode with them. They typically ride slower than I am used to and stop more often. I thought that I’d just go with the flow, enjoy the scenery and talk and not worry about getting in early.
There were some rolling hills and we had a good headwind but nothing too bad. We crossed into Indiana and I got a couple of pictures from that. The trip is really starting to go by fast. We will have a couple more days in Indiana and the 3 days in Ohio and then on to Pennsylvania. Where did the time go? I think all of the group is beginning to realize that this adventure will end some and we tend to spend a lot more time together.
For dinner we had a pizza and other party at the hotel. Since we lost an hour today it was a treat to NOT have to go out to a restaurant. We had a lot of good laughs at dinner and took at look at Patty’s helmet photos. I think that I will not ride with the turtle cover tomorrow because it got really hot in the afternoon. Tomorrow is “only” 45 miles and we start a little later because of the short distance. Very little excitement today other than Nick losing a cog off his free wheel but he seems to be back in business. I think he can only find used parts for it on EBAY as the bike is really old.
I will add some photos a little later…
