Hello everyone,
Overall, kind of an uneventful day. There were a couple of places to stop (but I didn’t stop) such as the Dalton Gang Hideout or the Boot Hill Museum. I would have liked to have seen them but I was tired from lack of sleep and wanted to get in to take a nap.
The day stared off very cool and threatening rain. We had a frontal -side wind that hit us most of the ride. I basically just gutted it out and hardly stopped at the first SAG (mile 39). I signed in and just kept going. The final 20 miles, I had a tailwind and the sun finally came out, so I could really hammer and often hot 26 -27 mph through the flat to gentle rolling terrain. A lot of farming going on in Dodge City. It looks to be an interesting city. I was going so fast that I got to the hotel before the rooms had been assigned so I rode on over to Dairy Queen and met up with a few of the other riders as they came into town. Those Blizzards sure taste good after 80 miles on the road.
I checked into the room and lay down for a few minutes. Two hours later, I realized that it was too late to go to the Boot Hill Museum. I have always been fascinated by Wyatt Earp and wanted to check out some of the history but that may have to wait. Some of the other riders told me that they would share some photos.
I did take a photo at Route Rap. We have Route rap every evening at 5:45 and basically go over issues and the next days ride. If there are tricky portions of the course, rabid dogs, dangerous RR crossings, points of interest or photo opportunities, these typically are highlighted at this time. Each of us has a sheet that list all that information, along with liege and turn directions. After Route Rap, we typically all go to dinner at an assigned place. .Tonight we had Mexican and it was excellent.
Not a lot to report tonight. I did figure out how to ended the Garmin rides players into the BLOG. One is below this. If you click on the link and then the player button (an Arrow), it will replay the ride and the corresponding statistics. Pretty cool.
Take care
Chuck
